Tomatoes and Container Gardening ~ A 2-for-1 Session

Master Gardener Jim Mast

When Jim Mast, DDS, isn’t nurturing his dental practice, he’s nurturing plants in Flagstaff, including tomatoes. This longtime Master Gardener is a fount of knowledge about the subject, and he’ll share that knowledge with us during the first hour or so. His talk will include the history of tomatoes, their nutritional benefits, how to grow them in the ground and in containers, how to select plants and much more. He will also tell us about this year’s Highlands Garden Conference, which will be held in Flagstaff.

Master Gardener Loni Shapiro

During the second hour, Master Gardener Loni Shapiro will share the tricks and benefits of Container Gardening and demonstrate how to plant a container. Container gardening is ideal for Flagstaff, she says, because gardeners can control the soil, water and, if the container is movable, even the light. She will also talk a little about her upcoming fundraising event, a Container Gardening workshop, which will benefit Northland Hospice and the Olivia White Hospice Home, where she coordinates volunteer work in the garden.
